The town's prosperity was based on industries such as brickmaking, brewing and iron-smelting. The town still has a significant manufacturing industry, even though some of these industries have gone out of business to exist. The Horsham branch is part of the pharmaceutical company Novartis. It was previously part of Ciba-Geigy. The RSPCA has its headquarters in Horsham, as is the British television station ITV.



Horsham is home to a number of independent restaurants and shops along with some larger chains such as Costa Coffee. The town is well-known among young people and has a substantial student population. The town is served by a variety of railway stations that include Horsham, Horsham Crawley and Christ's Hospital.
